Little Brother: Don’t trust anyone over 25

Monday, January 18th, 2010

I just finished reading Cory Doctorow’s “Little Brother”, and I loved it. It’s a great story, and an easy read. I chose to buy the book, but you can download it here – or from Doctorow’s site. Don’t worry, it is free!

Authors@Google: Alva Noë

Alva Noë talks about his book “Out of Our Heads.”.

Here’s what Dennett wrote in praise of “Out of Our Heads”:

“A provocative and insightful book that will force experts and students alike to reconsider their grasp of current orthodoxy. Out of Our Heads is a vivid, clear, and very knowledgeable critique of some of the main ideas in cognitive science, and those of us who disagree with some of its main conclusions have our work cut out for us.”

I disagree with Dennett. This is a surprisingly weak book, full of wishful thinking, outrageous assumptions, and poor reasoning. This book is why Alva Noë is now a prominent member of my blacklist.

Philosophy of Information

Philosophy of Information is probably going to be the next subject I’ll be studying – after I’m done with Philosophy of the Mind.

I’ve been thinking about a philosophy of information for some time now – but I didn’t even know there was such a thing out there. The closest thing I could find to what I have in mind is this book by Luciano Floridi. He also has a blog.
