Monday, February 15th, 2010Why do the photographers do it? What drives them to take pictures like these? I’ll never know. I can only hope they never stop. The “media” are only too happy to promote the party line.
Hitchens and Fry vs. Ann Widdecombe on The Ten Commandments
Friday, February 12th, 2010I just don’t understand. What kind of person goes out and votes for Ann Widdecombe?
(That look Hitchens is giving her is priceless. “Woman, are you for real?”)
Dark day for Ireland
Friday, January 1st, 2010Starting today, blasphemy is a crime in Ireland. Which is really confusing. After all these scandals concerning the catholic church in Ireland, you’d think the Irish would want to cut themselves some slack. Anyway, Atheist Ireland has began a campaign to have the law repealed with publishing 25 blasphemous quotes by famous people. (You can also find them here.)
Here’s one I like, lucky number thirteen:
13. Bjork, 1995: “I do not believe in religion, but if I had to choose one it would be Buddhism. It seems more livable, closer to men… I’ve been reading about reincarnation, and the Buddhists say we come back as animals and they refer to them as lesser beings. Well, animals aren’t lesser beings, they’re just like us. So I say fuck the Buddhists.”
Good luck to Atheist Ireland. I hope they find a way to cast off this shame – and all the feebleminded politicians who are responsible. Surely, even the most devout should be firmly against this absurd and dangerous violation of their freedom of expression.
Hitchens, Harris, Dennett vs Boteach, D’Souza, Taleb
Wednesday, November 25th, 2009Truly remarkable.
… See, I new that “Black Swan” guy was up to no good.
By the way, you can view this on HD on youtube.
Intelligence Squared
Monday, November 9th, 2009… or how Hitchens and Fry annihilated the arrogant defenders of the catholic church.
Happy Goddamn Blasphemy Day!
Wednesday, September 30th, 2009Free speech is the foundation on which all other liberties rest. Without having the right to express our opinions, however unpopular, those willing to use political clout, violence, and threats will stifle dissent, and we must all suffer the consequences of this. As George Bernard Shaw quipped, “Every great truth begins as a blasphemy.”

Thursday, July 30th, 2009The funny thing? If you look up “nucular” on wordnik, you’ll get these examples:
Folksy Sarah Palin with her gonnas and shouldas and nucular is a scary prospect for the English language. — Shuck and Jive
America will burn, she has too, and every major city in the uintied states will eventually be a nucular waste land. — Alex Jones’ Prison Planet.com
He mocked Palin for mispronouncing nuclear ( “nucular,” she pronounced it, which is better than Jimmy Carter’s “nuk-e-yer”). — WORLDMag.com
(or “nucular,” if you’re a Texan president) to put an end to these time-wastin ‘filibusters, and we Americans could have seen some progress made on important issues, such as ending this senseless war in Iraq or providing health care to the 40 million or so Americans who, unlike members of Congress, can’t afford it. — AugustaChronicle.com: Top News and Blogs
Amsterdam (Don’t be afraid)

Conservatives have got to stop picking on the Netherlands.
Improper words
Monday, July 6th, 2009“A literary lady, expressing to Dr. Johnson her approbation of his Dictionary, and, in particular, her satisfaction at his not having admitted into it any improper words— ‘No, madam,’ replied he; ‘I hope I have not daubed my fingers. I find, however, that you have been looking for them.’
This famous anecdote appears in
“The Life of Samuel Johnson, L.L. D. By James Boswell, John Wilson Croker.”
… After all, I am a Boswell alumnus.

Fire! The vatican blues
Saturday, June 20th, 2009The Pope, the Roman Catholic Church, and the State of Vatican City must be stopped.
According to CARA, there are more than 1.1 billion catholics around the world.
The Church has always taught the intrinsic evil of contraception, that is, of every marital act intentionally rendered unfruitful. This teaching is to be held as definitive and irreformable. Contraception is gravely opposed to marital chastity; it is contrary to the good of the transmission of life (the procreative aspect of matrimony), and to the reciprocal self-giving of the spouses (the unitive aspect of matrimony); it harms true love and denies the sovereign role of God in the transmission of human life.
See Vademecum for Confessors, par. 2.4
“Rome Statute” of the international criminal court, Article 7, par.1

(a) Murder;
(b) Extermination;
(c) Enslavement;
(d) Deportation or forcible transfer of population;
(e) Imprisonment or other severe deprivation of physical liberty in violation of fundamental rules of international law;
(f) Torture;
(g) Rape, sexual slavery, enforced prostitution, forced pregnancy, enforced sterilization, or any other form of sexual violence of comparable gravity;
(h) Persecution against any identifiable group or collectivity on political, racial, national, ethnic, cultural, religious, gender as defined in paragraph 3, or other grounds that are universally recognized as impermissible under international law, in connection with any act referred to in this paragraph or any crime within the jurisdiction of the Court;
(i) Enforced disappearance of persons;
(j) The crime of apartheid;
(k) Other inhumane acts of a similar character intentionally causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or to mental or physical health.
